Evil Eye
I didn’t set out looking for a symbol.
In fact, when I created the design that would eventually become part of our brand, I simply thought it was beautiful — calming, uplifting, and a little bit magical.
Only later did I learn that the design I loved so much has been cherished across Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures for thousands of years. Known as the evil eye, or mati (μάτι) in Greek, nazar in Turkish, mal’occhio in Italian, and by many names from Cyprus to Lebanon to Morocco, it’s a universal symbol of protection, comfort, and positive intention.
The more I learned, the more it felt meant to be.
Here I was creating soft, comforting textiles meant to wrap around you — and the design at the heart of our brand symbolized protection, intention, and good energy. It felt like the universe nudging me, saying, “Yes. This belongs here.”
So today, the evil eye isn’t a cultural claim or a marketing idea.
It’s a beautiful symbol that found me.
It represents:
🧿 comfort
🧿 protection
🧿 positive energy
🧿 good vibes
🧿 meaningful gifting
🧿 connection across cultures
Every Marlo + Olive piece is crafted with those intentions in mind.
Every bundle, towel, and blanket carries a little moment of beauty and goodwill — something you can feel, wrap around yourself, and share with the people you love.
The evil eye is woven into our brand not because of where it comes from,
but because of what it stands for.
And that meaning — comfort, protection, and good energy — is universal.
